In 1932 Khan worked with Dominique Berninger and together they formed the Architectural Research Group. In 1959 Khan designed the First Unitarian Church in Rochester New York. Then in 1969 there was an addition to the building also constructed by Louis Khan. Mr. Khan also builds the Norman Fisher House, and the National Assembly Building of Bangladesh. This building is one of the largest legislative complexes in the world. It serves as a house for all parliamentary activities of Bangladesh.
One of Louis greatest work was the Yale Center for British Art; the museum is located in New Haven, Connecticut at Yale University. The museum concentrates on the Elizabethan period and onward.
Louis loved light. All of his buildings are high in natural light. All of his architectural styles were constructed to have plenty of natural light. He also constructed buildings that he knew would be preserve in time, buildings that would be around even when he would be gone. That’s why he used materials like, stone and concrete. Khan never really settled down and worked in one place for one particular person. He also had troubled finding people to commission him because he did not desire to follow orders. He worked as he wanted, he constructed buildings the way he desire, and he did not like to be told how to work. One building that I think is typical of Kahn’s style is the Salk Institute. The entire building looks like boxes stacked up on top of each other. It’s made of stone with some wood. What’s very special about this building is that all the labs over look the Pacific Ocean. Something Khan also likes to do is instead of putting fountains he rather constructs in places that over look bodies of water.
